Notice the retailer spares no expense in promoting the available supply. "Get 'em while they're hot, expensive, and short on games!!!"
We love all our sibling sites, including the shiny and new PS3 Fanboy which has really been through the wringer during the launch period. They've got a post up detailing how you can ditch your SIXAXIS and use the tried and true Xbox 360 controller instead. It's already able to use the Wiimote, now this -- so what's next? Atari 2600 controllers and laser pointers?
Anyhow, nice hack. If they can just make the rumble work on the PS3, that would be slammin'.
Until such time when mini fusion reactors are built into our wireless controllers, we will sadly be forced to buy batteries and recharge. As we reported yesterday, Nyko has developed a much needed Wii-mote dock with rechargeable NiMH batteries. A nice place to stick our Wii-motes and charge them at the same time. Suggested cost for the Wii recharge station is $29.99 USD.
Nyko's PS3 charge base is designed to hold four Emmy-winning Sixaxis wireless controllers. The PS3 base comes with a six foot standard wall plug, to not take up any USB ports or force you to leave your system on. The charge base for the PS3 is suggested to cost $39.99 USD. We can't help but wonder what cost there was in manufacturing -- or hidden cost in licensing -- that made this glorified wall outlet $10 more than the Wii station, which does the same thing but gives you two rechargeable NiMH "rubberized" battery packs. If you want to just full-on skip the docking station, Nyko also has a 10 foot long charge link for $14.99 that allows gamers to keep playing while they recharge their Sixaxis controller.
Wow. This really takes us back to when we thought the Xbox 360's AV port was capable of digital out and it was only a matter of time before Microsoft released a proper HDMI adapter. Then came rumblings of a revised motherboard with an HDMI port located underneath the AV port (hmm ... curiously like the image above). Then back came the rumors about that HDMI cable.
Now, thanks to the above image nabbed by our buddies at Engadget, what's purported to be the second Xbox 360 (codenamed "Zephyr") can be seen rocking a dedicated HDMI port, for pain free 1080p. Also rumored to be included in the Xbox 360 v2 is a 120GB HDD, making those high-def downloads a little more palatable. No word on whether they're going to drop the comically priced $100 WiFi adapter and build that in as well, but the WiFi mounting brackets on the back aren't very reassuring. Although Engadget's insider says we can expect it "soon" we're left wondering about those smaller 65nm processors that were recently delayed. Are we gonna have to wait for Xbox 360 v3 for a cooler, quieter 360?

This is a new model of gamepad for PS3 developed by Nyko. The gamepad itself is called as "Zero". Ever since PS3 official gamepad announced, a lot of gamers getting dissapointed because the design of gamepad is just the same like ps2. Not only that, sony has decide to remove the "vibration" but add in SIXAXIS function. This may sounds cool and fresh, but because the fact that SIXAXIS is not reliable, it has once against dissapoint a lot of gamers.
"Zero" has been developed and going to launch for the purpose of fullfill gamer's need. But, seriously, the outlook for this gamepad didn't seems impress me. Anyway, there are not much information for this gamepad beside they just talking about the type of baterry is AA.
Anyway, the price for "Zero" is around 50 US dollar. Besides, there are 3 colors all togethers for these pad. Other than that, Nyko also decide to come out with a xbox360 gamepad as well.

Microsoft chairman cites the "surprising" strength of the DS and Wii as the biggest challenge to Xbox 360 supremacy.
When it comes to console rivalries, many think the most bitter feud is between Sony and Microsoft. Apparently Bill Gates doesn't. In an interview with Japanese TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Microsoft chairman and world's richest man says he sees another console maker as the Xbox 360's primary rival. "The strength of Nintendo...in the portable space, has been very impressive," Gates said in a video interview currently viewable on YouTube. "[It's] surprised a lot of people, I think, [that] and the Wii. We see Nintendo as our toughest competition."
Given that the interview was with Tokyo TV, it is possible Gates' comments were about the Japanese market, where the Xbox 360 trails far behind both the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. Naturally, many fanboys have taken Gates' comments as another indicator of Sony's greatly exaggerated demise. That viewpoint, though, overlooks the possibility Gates was intentionally slighting Sony in public as part of its ongoing war of words with the electronics giant.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Bill Gates used his annual keynote speech to talk about new uses for his Xbox 360 game device. Through a software update on Xbox Live, any current Xbox 360 will be able to act as a digital TV receiver and recorder in conjunction with Internet Protocal Television (IPTV). But to use your game machine as a TV device, you'll have to sign a deal with one of Microsoft's yet-to-be-announced IPTV partners. Companies like AT&T currently provide this service.
The plan is for the new software upgrade to come through these partners by this fall. For those who don't already own an Xbox 360, IPTV providers are expected to lease the machines, like cable companies lease set-top boxes. This means people won't have to put out $400 for a next generation game console come next Christmas.
Gamers will be able to perform the same types of functions while watching IPTV programs as they do while playing online games, which means voice chat and video conferencing are both possible. It also makes sense, since the receiver part of this device will eat up storage space on the 20GB hard drive, that Microsoft or these IPTV providers will bring out Xbox 360s with larger hard drives for storage.
Gamers can already buy HD TV content from dozens of networks like MTV, SpikeTV, CBS and Nickelodeon vis Xbox Live Marketplace. They can also download and rent HD movies from studios like Paramount and Warner Bros. Gamers can also buy a $200 HD-DVD drive to watch next generation movies through Xbox 360.
Once IPTV kicks in, the Xbox 360 will be even more of an entertainment device than it is now. While gaming will always be the focus, one true way to get these consoles into the mass market living rooms is through entertainment like TV and movies. And that's just what Microsoft is doing.

What we heard: Gamers hoping to flail about while playing the latest Japanese-only games on their US Wiis take note: Nintendo's next-gen console appears to be region-free.
The question of whether or not gamers will be able to play imported games on the upcoming console has been looming for quite some time now, with Nintendo neither confirming nor denying the feature. The company embraced region-free gaming with the Nintendo DS but has been evasive when asked if the Wii would follow suit.
However, today among the heavy stream of Wii news, Wired News said Nintendo of America VP of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan had finally confirmed that the console will indeed be region-free--in theory.
"Will the Wii be region-free? Yes. Like the Nintendo DS, the Wii will be able to play games from other regions, such as Japan, without any restriction. Kaplan implied there might be a region lock that publishers would be able to flip on, but it doesn't sound like the first-party titles from Nintendo will be restricted."
Nintendo still has yet to make a wide, media-friendly announcement on the subject. Hyping a feature such as region-free gaming would seem to be a no-brainer, so the company's coy stance raised concerns. Even the article's author seemed a bit skeptical with a careful choice of words: "Kaplan implied there might be a region lock that publishers would be able to flip on, but it doesn't sound like the first-party titles from Nintendo will be restricted."
The official story: Getting answers from Nintendo proved difficult during one of the company's busiest days of the year. However, after a lengthy exchange of cryptic e-mails, a rep finally confirmed that Kaplan's words regarding regionless first-party titles and potentially regionless third-party titles were indeed correct: "[The] Wii will be region-free."
What we heard: Even on their best days, most gaming message boards are not known as level-headed venues where different ways of thinking are welcome or accepted. So when Cheap Ass Gamer forum-goer "Hack" posted a picture of a GameStop flier over the weekend that said the retailer was requiring the $50 deposit on Wii and PlayStation 3 pre-orders to be paid in game trade-ins (cash or credit not accepted!), there was naturally much ado. Gamers took the news and ran with it, spreading it around various message boards and getting a bit of coverage from news aggregators as well. However, as the news spread, it seemed certain nuances were lost. The original poster, Hack, updated his post to clarify things as he understood them after a call back to the store where he picked up the flier.
"I will repeat that I never said this was official, or meant this to be an official nationwide announcement," Hack wrote in an update to his post. "As the beginning of this post has always stated (or rather, used to state), I'm not aware if this is a nationwide trend or not (and we have learned that it currently IS NOT). I do live in Hawaii, and therefore this could only be in my region. This is basically a small scale test of this new pre-ordering method. That means that if this test succeeds in Hawaii, it could possibly take effect nationwide."
It seems the GameStop employee who filled Hack in had the facts straight. A spokesman for the retailer told us today that the pre-order stipulation is real, but stressed that it is only a test, and one that the company is conducting only in Hawaii. He also said the test began and ended today, and that the company doesn't have an official nationwide program for pre-orders yet. It's unknown if Hawaiian customers will get another crack at pre-orders in the nationwide program, whatever form it may take.
The test is over, and it will be a little while before we see whether or not GameStop decides to embrace that strategy on a nationwide basis. However, it seems likely that GameStop, and possibly other retailers as well, would do something to improve their bottom line on console launches.
Whereas the profit on new game hardware is traditionally very small, the profit on selling used games is considerably higher. Requiring trade-ins to cover the deposit would be one way for retailers to better their bottom lines without requiring the bundled purchases that have become common from online retailers, including GameStop's own Web store.
Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that the plan is nationwide. Not bogus that GameStop was using Hawaii to test consumer reaction to the idea.
New gaming convention from IDG renamed "E for All Expo"; open-to-public exposition christened through contest.
In November, trade show producers IDG World Expo announced that it would be holding a contest to name its upcoming gaming convention, originally dubbed GamePro Expo. The group received more than 3,000 submissions from contestants, all vying for the grand prize of winning a trip to the show.
Less than two months later, we have a winner.
California resident Dante Padre submitted the winning entry, "Entertainment for All Expo," and will win a trip to Los Angeles to attend the show, which runs October 18-20. As the Electronic Entertainment Expo was typically shortened to E3, the Entertainment for All Expo will be known as E for All Expo.
"This show seems to be about inviting everyone to participate; they even asked gamers to create the name," said Padre on his winning entry.The consumer event will be open to the public and held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. IDG is currently working on the show's program, which it expects to include tournaments, a job fair, "family-friendly offerings," and the Video Games Live concert.
